The Qualification
The IKO is the kite industries largest training organisation operating in over thirty countries, with more than three thousand instructors teaching in a range of kitesports, from kite surfing, to snowkiting and now power kiting. The IKO is an independent training organisation that works alongside governments, local authorities and governing bodies providing guidelines and the industry standards in safety and teaching. The IKO Power Kite Instructor and beginner training courses have been developed specifically for the teaching of land based power kite flying, which whilst being great fun in its own right also forms the foundation knowledge and skill sets for any of the traction kite sports. The instructor course is offered in two formats ... Full Instructor Training Course (ITC) delivered over two days for people who meet the personal flying skills pre-requisites, but do not have any form of teaching or instructional background.
IF YOU ARE A TEACHER AND ALREADY HAVE A TEACHING / COACHING BACKGROUND Designed for those people with prior teaching experience and flying skills, the IKO also offers a one-day Instructor Equivalency Course (IEC).
Following the successful completion of your instructor-training course you will receive our IKO Power Kite instructor licence, which is valid throughout the world. IKO Power Kite card scheme
Training Team Adam Jones and Neil Godbold lead the UK’s team of power kite trainers. Both have been involved in the kite industry and teaching for many years, with Adam heading up training for one of the UK’s kite associations and Neil working for the IKO as an examiner and in training development. Please contact either Neil or Adam for further information about the training packages on offer to Kitesports in Schools. For the pair the overall aim is to ensure a high quality of training and safety from beginners through to the instructor level, ensuring that everyone can get the maximum level of enjoyment and fun from this exhilarating sport. Please note that the instructor courses are not designed to teach you how to fly power kites and these skills will need to be achieved before you can be excepted onto any instructor course. Please however feel free to contact the team if you are starting from scratch and they will be happy to arrange a training package to take you from beginner through to the instructor levels. |

In partnership with the world kite training organisation, the International Kiteboarding Organisation (IKO), Kitesports in Schools will be providing the first worldwide power kite instructor qualification available in the UK – the IKO Power Kite Instructor.
The IKO power kite card is awarded to each beginner that you train, once they have achieved all of the flying skills and can show they fully understand all the safety aspects of the sport. The card will give each student recognition their achievements and link them into the IKO family.
